The General Motors Collision Repair Network (CRN) requires facilities to obtain and maintain the I-CAR® Gold Class® designation. Gold Class ensures technicians have the knowledge and skills to provide customers with efficient, safe and high-quality collision repairs.

General Motors relies on I-CAR to deliver specific training programs for collision-repair technicians. The courses below are the only I-CAR programs reviewed and approved by GM.

GM Collision Repair Network (CRN)

For independent, MSO and dealer collision-repair network training.

Requires Gold Class as the base for all repair facilities.

To order Corvette C8 and Cadillac CT6 restricted structural parts, a shop must be an active CRN member with ICE Specialty status and have at least two structural technicians complete the courses below.

Requires six I-CAR online EV courses (also available as a package).

In addition to Gold Class, BEV Specialty and Aluminum GMA (MIG) Welding are required for Fleet Specialty. Completion allows shops to order BrightDrop restricted structural parts and appear on the CRN Fleet active-facility listing.

  • At least one technician must meet Fleet Specialty requirements.

GM Service Technical College (STC)

For dealer and dealer-sublet collision-repair training.

At least one technician must be identified in each role below and achieve ProLevel 1, 2, 3 or Platinum. A technician may hold multiple roles. The BEV package and Aluminum GMA (MIG) Welding are required for at least one technician per shop.

Technicians must “Affiliate” with “GM_Network (STC)” so I-CAR can transfer training records weekly. Affiliation instructions are in the GM course catalog.

Windshield Repair & Replace

Proper stationary-glass R&R is crucial to vehicle structural integrity. STC recommends Stationary Glass Removal and Installation for technicians performing fixed-glass repairs.

The course covers the role of stationary glass, removal and installation methods, preparation steps and adhesive application. GM’s January 2023 windshield-replacement position statement and all other GM position statements are available at GMParts.com.

Professional Development Program

The Professional Development Program™ (PDP) provides role-relevant training paths in recognised Knowledge Areas. To earn Gold Class Recognition, businesses must maintain training for each collision-repair role:
