Welding Training & Certification Resources

Improper welds can compromise a vehicle’s structural integrity. That’s why I-CAR’s Welding Training & Certification is instructor-led and conducted at the shop with the equipment technicians use regularly to perform complete, safe, and quality repairs.

When you successfully complete a Welding Training & Certification course you will:

  • Complete a Welding Capability & Readiness Assessment, which is a hands-on evaluation by the Instructor of the facility’s safety gear, equipment and infrastructure.
  • Train on welding techniques through theory instruction
  • Receive instructor-led, hands-on practice and coaching
  • Achieve I-CAR’s industry-recognized welding certification

Types of Welding

Welding Training & Certification, valid for three years, is available for Steel GMA Welding, Steel Sectioning and Aluminum GMA (MIG) Welding.

For technicians with an active certification, I-CAR offers a recertification. This is a test-only event and requires welders to perform welds without practice or coaching assistance. A Welding recertification course must be scheduled with another instructor-led course on the same day, such as the Hands-On Skills Development course or a full welding certification course for another technician at the shop.

For certified welding technicians up for renewal, I-CAR offers a recertification. This is a test-only event and requires welders to perform welds without assistance.
