I-CAR® CEO & President John Van Alstyne accepts ALS Ice Bucket challenge to "take break from Technical Tsunami and take on tsunami of ice water"

Joining in on the international campaign to raise awareness for ALS through the #ALSIceBucketChallenge, I-CAR® CEO & President John S. Van Alstyne welcomed the invitation from magazine editor Jake Weyer and his colleagues. Van Alstyne invited staff at I-CAR, the Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair, to cheer him on as he took the challenge. Employees pooled together to make a donation to the ALS Association and the Collision Repair Education Foundation.

“I’d like John Van Alstyne to take a break from the Technical Tsunami and take on a tsunami of ice water,” said FenderBender editor Weyer, in a video post as he, publisher Chris Messer and marketing strategist Andrew Johnson took their ice bucket challenge.

The “Technical Tsunami” references the theme that Van Alstyne introduced at I-CAR’s annual Conference last year in Boston and continued discussions on at this year’s Conference in Detroit. It relates to the technological advancements in the automotive industry that will transform collision repair techniques for tomorrow’s vehicles.

“While hesitant at first at the thought of having a bucket of ice water poured over my head, I gladly accepted the challenge to support two great causes,” Van Alstyne said. “I wanted to further raise awareness not only of ALS to help find a cure, but also to bring attention to the Collision Repair Education Foundation whose mission, like I-CAR’s, is to support endeavors that promote, qualify, and properly train employees entering the collision industry.”

With that, Van Alstyne took the challenge and in-turn nominated Clark Plucinski, Executive Director of the Collision Repair Education Foundation. Click here to watch the video.
